Charter schools sue for funding equity
The average per-pupil spending for Newark charter schools during the 2005-06 school year was about $9,500. This is in contrast to Newark Public Schools' budget of $16,351 per pupil during the same time period.  A 70% disparity.

$1.5 million Contract Awarded to Firm Tied to Mayor's Campaign Aide
The Newark City Council, without debate or discussion, voted unanimously to award a $1.5 million contract to a consulting group that is connected to Mayor Cory Booker's campaign manager.

First New High School in 40 years

It was freshman year all over again for Janae Pesante.

The senior wandered the corridors of her new school yesterday in search of her first honors biology class at Science Park High School, the first high school to open in Newark in 40 years.
